Around the Farm

In the Garden

Most days you can find me in the garden - vegetable or flower - you'll find me there!  Most of my time this year was spent in the flower gardens.  Each year seems to bring another 'little' garden or an expansion of an existing one.  Next season, while I continue to fill in spaces in an expansion I did this fall, I'm also planning a wild flower garden.  Our plan is to make sure that our honey bees have plenty of nectar in every season.

Our vegetable garden is buttoned up for the winter but we'll be sure to share news as Spring arrives in New England.

There is always something to do around the farm.  Whatever we are doing - we do our very best to do it sustainably.  What the heck does that mean?!  Glad you asked.  Sustainable gardening or sustainable farming is a really cool term with no real technical definition -- but the concept is grounded on 'do no harm'.  Do no harm to Mother Earth.  It's really about practicing good environmental stewardship.

At the Barn

Meet the residents!  Pokey, (black horse, white face) is our matriarch - she is sweet and stoic and a mama's girl.  Brody (Black face) is a beast! He is a big painted draft with a heart that beats only for Pokey.  Where Pokey goes, Brody goes.  Becky (grey, taller donkey), our newest edition is a female donkey (otherwise known as a jenny) -- sweet, sweet Becky. Jango is a miniature male donkey (or a jack) and a town celebrity in his own right.  Many residents stop by during warmer months for a quick picture with our little angel.

Izzy, Lucy, Wick and Daisy are our lovable Labs.  They love farm life and keep watch from the back porch!

Red and White (yes, those are their names) are our chickens.  They make their home in the hay loft and provide us with a couple of eggs each day (most of the time).
